Free Swimming
How would you like to go swimming for free?
The Assembly Government is funding free swimming in Wales for:
- Children and young people aged 16 and under during all school holidays; and
- Older People aged 60 and over outside school holidays.
Some local authorities have extended the scheme to provide 60+ Free Swimming all year around.
The Free Swimming pilot initiative is the first of its kind in Europe. It aims to increase participation in physical activity and improve the health and well-being of the nation. It does this by improving access to local authority leisure services.
In 2007/08 the Welsh Assembly Government is now investing £6.3 million in the Free Swimming initiative. This contributes to the aims of the Older People’s Strategy, Climbing Higher and Health Challenge Wales.
Sports Council for Wales
The Sports Council for Wales (SCW) manages the delivery of Free Swimming for the Assembly Government.
