Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales encourages the improvement of social care, early years and social services by regulating, inspecting and reviewing, and by providing professional advice to Ministers and policy makers. Through our work, we aim to raise standards, improve quality, promote best practice and inform people about social care.
Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW) was launched in April 2007. If you want to know more about CSSIW - our Frequently Asked Questions pages should help.

CSSIW's new intergrated structure comprises a national office, which has a strategic, all-Wales advisory role, and four regions, which ensure that regulatory decision making is taken at a local level.

Over 6,000 services are regulated and inspected by CSSIW using the regulations and national minimum standards set by the Welsh Assembly Government.

CSSIW works with other inspectorates and regulatory bodies in carrying out its work. Together with the Wales Audit Office it conducts joint reviews of local authority social services.

Our service analysis and improvement units for children and adults promote good practice and service development in social care and social services.  We provide professional advice on these matters.

Two grant schemes are managed by CSSIW:

We produce a wide range of reports and public information documents and leaflets.   Most of these can be downloaded from this website, or you can contact us and request hard copies.

Your views on the service we provide are important to us. This website is currently being developed, but if you have any suggestions on how we can improve it, email us at cssiw@wales.gsi.gov.uk
